
If you have ever opened a tube clamp catalogue, you have seen the phrase “DIN 3015” printed everywhere – on light series clamps, heavy series clamps, twin clamps and every rail accessory in between. For engineers new to hydraulic pipe support, the standard can feel like jargon.
In reality, DIN 3015 is one of the most useful shortcuts in piping design: once you understand its three parts, you can specify the correct clamp in seconds. This guide breaks down what DIN 3015 is and how Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 differ.
What Is DIN 3015?
DIN 3015 is the German industrial standard that defines the dimensions and performance of block-style pipe and tube support clamps. Because it was adopted so widely, it became the global reference point for clamp design – clamps built to DIN 3015 from different manufacturers share the same critical dimensions, which means they are interchangeable within the standard.
That interchangeability is the whole point. An engineer can design a pipe layout around DIN groups and mounting rails, and later source clamps from any compliant supplier without redrawing anything.
The standard is deliberately split into three parts, each aimed at a different class of application. Choosing the right part is the fastest way to specify the correct clamp for the job.
DIN 3015 Part 1 – The Standard (Light) Series
Part 1 covers the standard series, usually called the light duty clamp. It is by far the most widely used, and it is the clamp engineers reach for first when routing hydraulic, lubrication, instrumentation and pneumatic lines.
The “light” label is often misunderstood – it does not mean weak or flimsy. It refers to a compact, economical clamp body designed for tubes up to roughly 76 mm outer diameter, carrying everyday low-to-medium pressure and vibration.
A Part 1 clamp is built from a handful of simple parts: two clamping halves that close around the tube, a weld or mounting plate that anchors the assembly, a cover plate and a single bolt.
Tighten the bolt and the tube is gripped evenly, held in place and damped against vibration. For general-purpose routing, this is the workhorse.
DIN 3015 Part 2 – The Heavy Series
Part 2 defines the heavy series: a reinforced clamp for situations where pressure, pipe size or shock load is simply too demanding for a light clamp.
Heavy series bodies use thicker jaws and larger locking bolts to resist pressure surge and mechanical impact, and they extend the size range dramatically – well beyond 200 mm outer diameter for large-bore piping.
You reach for Part 2 clamps in high-pressure hydraulic systems, heavy earthmoving and mining equipment, steel plants, power generation and any large-bore line where the consequences of a failure are severe.
If the light series is the everyday clamp, the heavy series is the one you choose when the line absolutely cannot be allowed to move.
DIN 3015 Part 3 – The Twin Series
Part 3 covers the twin, or double, series – a space-saving clamp whose body holds two parallel lines in a single mounting point. On tightly packed manifolds, mobile equipment and skid-mounted units, panel space is precious, and a twin clamp lets you secure two runs where a pair of single clamps would not fit. It also cuts part count and installation time, which matters on high-volume builds.
